CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Angela's parents were only together about six weeks. In that time, Charlie Emerson decided that he couldn't deal with an alcoholic drug-user as a girlfriend. Unfortunately, however, he had to deal with her as the mother of his child.

Shelley, Angela's mother, decided when Angela was about eight months old that she could no longer hack motherhood and dropped the baby girl on her father's doorstep before going into rehab. chase, having no knowledge of Angela's existence, ended up agreeing to take her in under the condition that Stephanie not come back until "she was clean, sober, and ready to be a mom."

Angela has only seen Shelley about three times after that.

Charlie and Angela practically raised each other, as he tried to keep his relationships with other women together and largely being unsuccessful. His relationship with a long time steady girlfriend ended after about five years and deeply traumatized Angela when it was over.

Angela has never had a steady mother-figure. Her relationship with her father is good, but the Army has just shipped him out for an extended tour of duty overseas. Having no current girlfriend willing to look after Angela and nowhere else to turn, he called his widowed mother to see if she would be willing to take Angela in.

So now, Angela comes, very reluctantly, to Middle Area, PA, to live with his mother, who has never quite forgiven her son for having a daughter out of wedlock.

Angela is a sweet, often depressed girl who enjoys writing, music, surfing and the martial arts. She has moderate to severe abandonment issues, and now feels (unfairly, she knows) that her father has now abandoned her too. Most of her life, she's been eaten up with guilt because of the sacrifices her father has made for her.
